THE HISTORY

Originally presented at the W.P.A. Theatre in New York City in March of 1987 under the artistic direction of Kyle Renick.  The 1989 movie version with Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts is today, a most popular classic.

SPAO’s original fall of 1991 “Steel Magnolias” production under the artistic direction of Vicki Wolfe broke SPAO attendance records at The Stillwater high school auditorium and went on to sell out the three dinner theatre performances at Panza’s Starlite Inn the following winter.  See SPAO's Past Shows.

THE SHOW
The show takes place in the beauty shop of Truvy Jones in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana during the early 1980’s.  The play follows the interaction of six women over a period of two and a half years. The play consists of two acts - each containing two scenes. Run time: Approx. 2 hours plus a 20 minute intermission.
