The characters In "Rumors" consist of four married couples who have been invited to a posh house party . They all belong to the same country club and are all "nouveau riche".
The Gorman's are the 1st to arrive. They both are lawyers. Finding their host and friend Charlie unconscious with a bullet wound to his ear lobe and the hostess, Charlie's wife Myra missing, they feel compelled to protect their host's reputation by covering up what may have happened. Charlie may or may not have been attacked by missing Myra, it may have been a suicide try, it may have been nothing but an accident, but, in any event, the Gorman's are going to cover it up.
The Ganz's arrive next, Lenny Ganz is the host's accountant. They stumble on what's going on and agree to help the Gorman's cover it up.
The Cusack's arrive next. Ernie is a popular analyst and his wife a popular TV Chef. They are conned into cooking and serving dinner in spite of Mrs. Cusack's trick back. They know something is up but can't figure it out.
The Cooper's are the last guests to arrive. Theyıre having marital problems of their own which they try to keep hidden especially since Glen Cooper is about to become a state senator.
